Waikato Hospital is a tertiary level facility that is a key provider of integrated hospital and community based health services to the Waikato Region which has a population base of approximately 400,000 in the central North Island of New Zealand. In addition to Waikato Hospital, there is a network of community hospitals and services throughout the region.
Waikato Cardiothoracic Unit provides cardiothoracic surgery, to other neighbouring health providers in the Te Manawa Taki region. In total, serving a total population of approaching one million. It is a specialised 650 bed based hospital with all diagnostic and treatment facilities on one campus and a total staff of more than 5000 people.
Specialist services delivered in Waikato Hospital include vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, radiology, cardiology, otolaryngology, general surgery, gynaecology, haematology, paediatric surgery, maxillofacial surgery, medicine, obstetrics, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery , renal, respiratory, dermatology, urology and intensive care.
Within Waikato Cardiothoracic Unit we treat a wide spectrum of challenging surgical pathology. Our surgeons have expertise in:

Uniportal VATS lobectomy
Rib fixation and chest wall reconstruction
International fellows are afforded excellent clinical experience and theatre exposure. There is ample opportunity to present and publish academic work with the support of the unit.
